Miami Beach, FL – July 3, 2024 – North Beach’s abandoned Byron Carlyle Theater is set for a cultural renaissance with Miami Beach city commissioners fast-tracking a comprehensive redevelopment plan.

The Byron Carlyle Theater, closed since 2019, is slated to become a cultural hub featuring a movie theater, black box theater, children’s art classes, office space for local arts nonprofits, artist studios, a recording studio, affordable housing, and potentially a cafe.

The ambitious plan, championed by Commissioner Tanya Bhatt, aims to bring arts and cultural opportunities to North Beach, mirroring those in South Beach. The project, funded by over $30 million from bonds approved in 2022, will also address affordable housing concerns and use rental income to sustain the complex, ensuring long-term financial stability without relying on taxpayer subsidies.

The initiative is supported by various local arts organizations and marks a significant shift from previous failed attempts to restore or sell the theater, promising a vibrant future for the community.
