Miami, FL – April 2, 2024 – Florida voters will have the final say on recreational marijuana legalization, as the state’s Supreme Court has approved Amendment 3 for the November 2024 ballot. This decision comes as a setback for Gov. Ron DeSantis and other conservative voices in Florida who opposed the measure. If passed by 60% or more of voters, the amendment will legalize the non-medical use of marijuana products and accessories for adults aged 21 and older, taking effect six months after the election. The approval marks a significant shift from 2021 when the court rejected similar proposals. The campaign for Amendment 3 was backed by Smart & Safe Florida, a group that raised over $40 million for this cause. Currently, two dozen states have already legalized recreational marijuana, and Florida’s amendment would allow possession of up to 3 ounces of marijuana, with limitations on concentrated forms.
