Zak Stern, known for his to die for bread, started his business in Miami baking in a used oven in a friend’s garage and selling his bread at farmer’s markets until he opened Zak The Baker Artisanal Kosher Bakery in Wynwood in 2014. In the years since, he’s earned James Beard semifinalist nods, been written up by The New York Times, and dabbled in TV. Cuban-American Michael Beltran is chef, owner, and partner of Ariete Hospitality Group which includes Miami restaurants Ariete, Navé, Chugs Cuban Diner, The Scapegoat and The Taurus. Jose Mendín moved from his native Puerto Rico to Miami in 1998. He graduated from Johnson & Wales University with a Bachelor’s Degree in the Culinary Arts. Mendín went on to help open Nobu Miami that same year and Nobu London in 2002. Lots of gigs at top restaurants followed. He founded Pubbelly Global in 2010, an ever-evolving conglomerate of hotspots. Mendin and partners have expanded their restaurant portfolio in Florida and internationally with concepts that include Pubbelly Sushi, La Placita in Miami, Rivertail in Fort Lauderdale, Moloko in Paris.
