Miami Beach, FL – February 23, 2024 – Preparations for Spring Break 2024 are underway in Miami Beach, with city officials unveiling strict measures to quell the disruptive trends witnessed in previous years. The heightened focus revolves around two “high-impact” weekends in mid-March, identified as the peak of the spring break season. Notably, the decision follows a tumultuous 2023 spring break, marked by two fatal shootings, 488 arrests, and widespread lawlessness. To manage the anticipated surge in visitors, Miami Beach is implementing a comprehensive plan. Starting every Thursday through Sunday in March, measures include closed parking garages, restricted beach entrances, and stringent rules regarding alcohol and amplified music. High-impact weekends will see increased parking rates, additional traffic restrictions, and closures of sidewalk cafes along Ocean Drive. The city also aims to enhance public safety by deploying increased police and staffing levels, collaborating with various law enforcement agencies, and introducing “Goodwill Ambassadors” to assist visitors. The trolley service will operate on an expanded schedule during peak periods, offering an alternative transportation option.
