The soccer governing body is shifting its entire legal department along with audit, compliance, and risk management teams from Zurich to Coral Gables, Florida, which has gained prominence in the soccer world following Lionel Messi’s decision to join Inter Miami in MLS. FIFA has announced that this relocation is scheduled to be fully operational by August 2024 and will initially share space with the FIFA 2026 World Cup team. The move will bring FIFA closer to the action, with the expanded 48-team men’s World Cup in 2026 primarily hosted in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. The decision reflects FIFA President Gianni Infantino’s plan to spend more time in the United States, especially as the U.S. prepares to host the expanded 32-team Club World Cup tournament in 2025.
