WRE News: Oolite Arts is Launching the Knight Artist Housing Stipend

Miami Beach, FL – July 2, 2023 – Miami’s housing affordability crisis has taken a toll on local artists and in response, Oolite Arts has launched the Knight Artist Housing Stipend.

Starting in 2024, selected artists in residence at Oolite will receive $12,000 annually to assist with housing costs over several years. The stipend will be in addition to the free studio space for two years Oolite already provides at the nonprofit’s Lincoln Road location.

The $876,000 funding for the housing stipend initiative is part of a $1.25 million grant from The Knight Foundation. Dennis Scholl, President and CEO of Oolite Arts, expressed deep concern about the affordability crisis and its impact on local artists. He hopes that this initiative, in collaboration with the Knight Foundation, will not only help the selected artists but also spark discussions and identify additional solutions.
