Miami Beach, FL – January 10, 2023 – Proposed restoration plan after proposed restoration plan, the Miami Marine Stadium has stood slowly deteriorating by the sea. Designed by Hilario Candela in 1963, the Miami Marine Stadium was formerly a popular attraction amongst boat enthusiasts and local concert goers who would gather to watch boat races and live performances at the venue. Since Hurricane Andrew tore through the city in 1992, the Marine Stadium shut up shop — and remains closed 30 years later. The abandoned giant on the bay has since served as a gathering spot for graffiti artists, skateboarders, and other passerby in the nighttime. With celebrity advocates and local community members pushing for the restoration and preservation of this venue, city officials have time and again proposed restoration plans. The latest, a $45 million dollar plan, hopes to restore the stadium to its former glory while constructing an additional boat ramp for 40-foot motorboats and a 72-space trailer lot adjacent to the venue. As it stands, it’s “unclear” when construction will begin.
