Miami Beach, FL – November 29, 2022 – On Tuesday, November 29th, Brugal Rum kicked off Miami Art Week with the official unveiling of the Brugal 1888 / Alexander Mijares collaboration, a limited edition collection of Brugal 1888 bottles designed by Miami-based artist, Alexander Mijares, at the Upside rooftop in Moxy Miami South Beach.
Using 11 Brugal 1888 bottles as a canvas, Mijares drew parallels between his own life and the rum house’s 134-year history to symbolize shared passions, the vibrancy of the Latin community and the unwavering bond of familial legacy.
Debuted at the exclusive event, the bottles were the focal point of the evening, floating in the Upside’s rooftop pool. The artist and Brugal 1888’s Maestra Ronera Jassil Villanueva Quintana walked guests through each piece, which depict themes of Family, Music, Cask Mastery, Miami, Progression, and more. The hosts also recounted stories of Mijares’ firsthand visit to Casa Brugal in the Dominican Republic, which inspired his designs, as well as the unmatched hospitality he received from the Brugal family.
With Miami’s picturesque skyline serving as the perfect backdrop and rhythmic Latin music setting the evening’s mood, guests marveled at the collection and indulged in passed lite bites of ceviche, oysters, and tuna tartar, amongst others. Cocktails included Brugal Passion, a citrusy passion fruit, Brugal 1888 champagne cocktail, charmingly named after one of the bottles in the collection; the brand’s signature sip, Don Nano’s Favorite – Brugal 1888 poured over coconut ice – and additional Brugal 1888 signature serves that paid homage to the brand’s artist collaboration.
Rounding out the evening, Brugal 1888 surprised guests with a complimentary sketch book, each personalized with their names by Miami-based calligrapher Magen Ferrer.
