World Ocean Day 2022 at Frost Science Museum

Miami, FL – June 5, 2022 – On Sunday, June 5, guests celebrated World Ocean Day at the Phillip and Patricia Frost Museum of Science in Downtown Miami. The day was filled with special activities and programs which highlighted the global movement to protect at least 30% of our blue planet by 2030 (“30×30”). Local organizations and scientists were onsite to showcase the science of everything marine, including the Frost Science Museum Volunteers for the Environment (MUVE), Debris Free Oceans, University of Miami, Blue Scholars Initiative, BetaAnalytic, Miami-Dade Public Library System, SEAC USA Corporation, Virginia Key Outdoor Center, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, Pelican Harbor Seabird Station, SECORE International, Inc., Miami-Dade County Sea Turtle Conservation Program (STCP), SEAC Scuba USA Corporation, and the NSU Coral Reef Restoration, Assessment, and Monitoring Lab. Special presentations and talks took place on different stages around the museum with some of the area’s leading researchers and scientists, including the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), Miami-Dade Reef Guard Association, Miami Waterkeeper (MWK), Miami EcoAdventures, NAUI: The National Association of Underwater Instructors and more. In addition, guests were able to tour the museum’s research WetLab with the Southeast Florida Coral Reef Restoration Hub team and speak directly with coral scientists working to restore Florida’s Coral Reef. The World Ocean Day event served as the official debut of the new 2021 Annual Underwater Photography Contest photography exhibit on the Dive level of the Aquarium, presented by the University of Miami (UM) Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science.
