Miami Beach, FL – September 1, 2021 – On Wednesday night, Groot Hospitality proudly celebrated the opening of Winker’s Diner on Miami Beach’s Alton Road. Delivering classic food and drink with current twists, this 240-seat, day-to-night outpost offers staple fare under a sleek, retro-modern atmosphere.
The restaurant gets its title from Groot Hospitality founder David Grutman’s pet cat; the one-eyed feline, who goes by the same name, is a cherished member of the Grutman family. Each of Grutman’s properties are deeply personal projects; Winker’s Diner stands as a heartfelt wink-and-nod to a communal atmosphere and experience.
“Winker’s is my version of a classic neighborhood diner — a place where you know you’ll always find a familial atmosphere and easygoing comfort food,” says David Grutman. “It’s also a spot that has something for everyone. From families to friends, we’ve got you covered.”
Winker’s Diner serves up an expansive menu including shareable dishes, all-day breakfast plates, upgraded deli-style sandwiches, salads, and traditional mains – yet everything is done with an elevated hand.
Designed by the design firm ICRAVE, Winker’s Diner features teal blue pullman leather booths, nostalgic bronzed-metal accents, and three-dimensional pastel walls that are layered with starburst panels and custom triangular sconces. At the same time, the Art Deco-infused aesthetic is balanced by a modern-day Miami Beach gloss – sleek lines, a contemporary peninsula liquor bar and an open concept complement the throwback vibe. The bar is capped by a floating marquee that echoes the building’s exterior canopy; it acts as a glowing centerpiece in the space. Winker’s Diner captures all of the charm of a classic coffee shop, but it fits perfectly into the 2020’s.
Winker’s Diner is one of three new Groot Hospitality venues at 1575 Alton Road, the others being Sushi Fly Chicken and Toothfairy.
