World Ocean Day at Frost Science Museum

Miami, FL – June 6, 2021 – On Sunday, June 6, guests celebrated World Ocean Day presented by the Miami Downtown Development Authority at the Phillip and Patricia Frost Museum of Science in Downtown Miami. The day was filled with special activities and programs which highlighted the global movement to protect at least 30% of our blue planet by 2030 (“30×30”). The event started with an early morning volunteer cleanup around Maurice A. Ferré Park with the Frost Science Museum Volunteers for the Environment (MUVE) group. Local organizations were onsite to showcase the science of everything marine, including the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, Ocean Rescue Alliance, Miami Surfrider Foundation, Nova Southeastern University, University of Miami Rescue a Reef, Miami Dade Reef Guard, and Brightmark. In addition to exploring museum exhibitions and participating in a special scavenger hunt, guests also had the opportunity to connect with Mack Hollins from the Miami Dolphins and Master Chief SEAL(Ret) Steve “Gonzo” Gonzalez with Force Blue to learn about the collaborative 100 Yards of Hope coral reef restoration project and view special dives in the museum’s iconic Gulf Stream aquarium exhibit.
