Ignacio Mattos & John Iatrellis

Miami Beach, FL – May 20, 2021 – Ignacio Mattos is the rockstar restaurateur, cookbook author and chef-owner of the New York, NY restaurants estela, Café Altro Paradiso, and Flora Bar. The Uruguayan-born Mattos is renowned for his bold, singular style, which has earned estela, now in its 6th year, numerous accolades, including a place on the World’s 50 Best Restaurants List, one Michelin Star, and two stars from both New York Magazine and the New York Times. This year, he was invited by Executive Chef John Iatrellis, of Layla – a refreshingly inviting, communal and upbeat restaurant, bar and cafe, set on the Collins Canal featuring seasonally simple veg-forward cuisine – to join him in crafting an intimate dinner experience that combined the best of Miami fusion cuisine with Mattos’ eclectic cooking style.

Inspired by both the city he now calls home and the chefs under whom he cut his culinary teeth – chefs Alice Waters, Francis Mallmann, and Judy Rodgers among them – Mattos stripped down fusion Italian, Spanish and Middle Eastern flavors and crafted them into a nouveau panorama of taste and flavor. Iatrellis has been at the helm of some of the trendiest kitchens in the Magic City, The Forge, Lure Fishbar and Barcelona Wine Bar & Restaurant, among them. Guests sipped on eclectic wine pairings from the Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits portfolio and reveled in Mattos and Iatrellis’ satisfying culinary creations, while overlooking the banks of the Collins Canal from Layla’s waterfront deck.
