RIP Terence Riley

Miami, FL – May 20, 2021 – Terence Riley, former Chief Curator of Architecture and Design at the MoMA, Director at Miami Art Museum, and founding partner of Keenen/Riley Architects, has sadly passed away at the age of 66.

During his 13 year tenure as Chief Curator of Architecture and Design at the Museum of Modern Art, Riley helped the institution execute Yoshio Tanaguchi’s $850 million renovation, staged blockbuster retrospectives on Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, and introduced foreign architects such as Rem Koolhaas and Herzog & de Meuron to the American public. Then, as Director of the Miami Art Museum, now the Pérez Art Museum Miami, he oversaw the design of its acclaimed new building by Herzog & de Meuron. As a practicing architect, Riley worked on a number of residential and commercial buildings throughout Miami through his firm Keenen/Riley Architects including several for Craig Robins in Miami Design District such as the iconic parking garage located in the neighborhood. His firm also deigned other museums and galleries including the Sarasota Art Museum.
