Miami, FL – August 16, 2024 – Florida may soon see a sweeping ban on smoking in public spaces if recreational marijuana is legalized in the upcoming November vote.
Senator Joe Gruters, a key Republican lawmaker, plans to introduce legislation that would prohibit smoking in all public areas, including parks, beaches, and restaurants. The proposal is intended to prevent the potential negative impacts, such as unpleasant odors, associated with the legalization of marijuana under Amendment 3.
While Governor Ron DeSantis strongly opposes the amendment, Gruters believes that the bill will help regulate public smoking and maintain Florida’s appeal, ensuring that the state doesn’t follow in the footsteps of places like Las Vegas or New York.
