Miami, FL – June 8, 2024 – Nearly 3,000 guests celebrated World Ocean Day 2024 presented by the Miami DDA at the Phillip and Patricia Frost Museum of Science in Downtown Miami. Frost Science members kicked off the celebration with an exclusive sustainable seafood cooking demonstration and tasting presented by James Beard award winner Chef Allen Susser. Throughout the main event, guests heard from scientists about marine animals and plants, explored the impacts of plastic pollution, and contributed to a special World Ocean Day 2024 mural created by Miami street artist, Golden 305. Local organizations and conservationists dove into marine science with hands-on activities including University of Miami’s Rescue a Reef program, BLUE Missions, Florida Atlantic University Marine Lab, Pelican Harbor Seabird Station, Virginia Key Beach Park Trust, Miami-Dade County Sea Turtle Conservation Program, Cortada Foundation, Miami Waterkeeper, University of Miami Rosenstiel School Johnson Center for Marine Conservation, and the Florida Atlantic University Marine Lab. Special presentations included a science quiz stage show, a liquid nitrogen demonstration, and book reading with author Gabrielle Raymond McGee. Frost Science educators and the animal husbandry team as well as Headcount Miami, also engaged with guests. World Ocean Day 2024 was generously sponsored by the Miami Downtown Development Authority (Miami DDA).
