Miami, FL – June 10, 2024 – Harvey Chaplin, a trailblazer in the liquor industry, pioneering figure of wine and spirits and Chairman of Southern Glazer, has passed away at the age of 95.
Born in Brooklyn, New York, in 1929, Chaplin’s career began in the mailroom at Schenley Industries before joining Southern Wine in 1969. He played a crucial role in the company’s expansion and later oversaw its merger with Glazer’s Distributing in 2016.
Chaplin’s visionary leadership and commitment to the industry transformed Southern Glazer’s into the largest distributor of beverage alcohol in North America, operating in 45 U.S. markets and Canada.
Harvey Chaplin is survived by his wife, Roberta, three children, nine grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren. Memorial contributions can be made to several institutions bearing his name, reflecting his lasting impact on both the industry and his community. Known for his dedication to family and philanthropy, his legacy will be carried on by his son Wayne Chaplin, current CEO, and the next generation of leaders he mentored.
