Miami, FL – February 27, 2034 – Globally acclaimed art collector Rosa de la Cruz, known for co-founding one of Miami’s initial private art museums, has died at the age of 81 after battling an autoimmune disorder. De la Cruz, along with her husband Carlos, established the de la Cruz Collection in the Miami Design District in 2009, showcasing an extensive art collection featuring works by prominent artists like Christopher Wool and Mark Bradford. Born in Havana, Cuba, in 1942, Rosa and Carlos married in 1962 and later settled in Miami, creating a close-knit family. Beyond their contributions to the art world, the philanthropic couple was honored for their dedication to education, funding trips for students to further their studies. Rosa’s legacy is remembered for her passion for art, strong opinions in politics, and her commitment to fostering a broadly educated public. Over the years, World Red Eye has had the privilege of capturing Rosa and her husband Carlos at various events throughout Miami and, of course, at the De La Cruz Collection — A wonderful institution that now holds her legacy for years to come.
