Miami, FL – July 23, 2023 – Miami-Dade County is set to witness its first-ever budget proposal surpassing $11 billion, which includes a cut to the countywide property tax rate by 1% from Mayor Daniella Levine Cava.
The proposed rate reduction aims to provide immediate relief to residents while ensuring the county’s ability to continue delivering essential services.
The budget includes a substantial increase of $283 million in property tax revenue compared to the current fiscal year, with additional revenue contributions from fees charged to cruise ships and airlines at PortMiami and Miami International Airport. Overall, the 2024 budget proposal amounts to a significant 12% surge of $1.3 billion.
Some key highlights of the budget include allocating approximately $300 million more for public safety, with increases of 17% for Corrections, Fire Rescue, and Police. County employees will also receive a 3% raise, and over 700 new positions will be added to the current workforce of about 30,000.
