Miami Beach, FL – June 29, 2023 – Ocean Drive Magazine, the long-standing beacon of Miami Beach’s vibrant culture, is bidding farewell to its iconic location and migrating to Coral Gables.
Founded in January 1993 by Jerry Powers and Jason Binn, South Beach encompassed just a handful of blocks, and Ocean Drive played a pivotal role in the evolution of Miami Beach, illustrating its potential and allure to the world. From its humble beginnings, the magazine flourished, establishing itself as the “Bible of South Beach”.
Its inaugural office, situated where the beloved News Cafe resides, was the birthplace of countless articles that captured the essence of Miami’s vibrant spirit. In 1996, Ocean Drive Magazine relocated to the bustling corner of 5th and Washington, solidifying its presence as a fixture in Miami Beach for three remarkable decades. In 2007, the magazine was acquired by Greenspun Media Group and became a part of Niche Media, which was then purchased in 2017 by current owners Modern Luxury.
Ocean Drive’s relocation to a shared workspace in Coral Gables serves as a poignant reminder of a changing landscape between digital and print publications, forcing difficult decisions upon the once almighty, and the ever-evolving nature of South Beach. Seth Browarnik, Founder of World Red Eye, started his career at 19 as an intern at Ocean Drive Magazine.
