Miami, FL – June 4, 2023 – Guests celebrated World Ocean Day 2023 presented by the Miami DDA at the Phillip and Patricia Frost Museum of Science in Downtown Miami. Throughout the day they heard from scientists about marine animals and plants, explored the impacts of plastic pollution and took part in a live stage show featuring Undersea Chemistry. Guests also helped conserve our local ecosystems by tasting lionfish, an invasive species, prepared with the Museum’s catering partner, Constellation Culinary Group. Local organizations and scientists were onsite to showcase the science of everything marine, including Frost Science educators and animal caretakers, Debris Free Oceans, University of Miami’s Rescue a Reef program, Blue Scholars Initiative, Miami-Dade Public Library System, The Florida Aquarium, Virginia Key Beach Park Trust, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, Miami-Dade County Sea Turtle Conservation Program, The International SeaKeepers Society, Miami-Dade County Sea Turtle Conservation Program (STCP), Miami Dade Reef Guard Association, Miami Waterkeeper, United States Coast Guard Auxiliary, X-REEFS, UF/IFAS Extension & Florida Sea Grant Miami-Dade County, Florida Atlantic University Marine Lab, SECORE International and NSU’s Marine Environmental Center. In addition to the generous sponsorship from the Miami Downtown Development Authority, the event was also supported Florida Prepaid.
