Miami, FL – May 21, 2023 – Longtime arts nonprofit CEO and president Dennis Scholl is retiring from Oolite Arts to pursue his own artistic endeavors full-time, leaving behind a legacy of supporting artists through residencies, awards, and programs.
During his tenure, Scholl spearheaded initiatives that elevated Oolite’s profile, such as awarding millions of dollars to local artists and acquiring warehouses in Little River for the organization’s new headquarters. Scholl expressed excitement about devoting his third act to filmmaking and visual arts, finding joy in the creative process.
Before Oolite, Scholl was appointed program director for the Knight Foundation, developing a nationwide cultural arts program and a $40 million initiative to unite South Florida through the arts.
Scholl also initiated Oolite’s Cinematic Arts Program, offering residencies and financial support to South Florida filmmakers, as well as the Home and Away travel residency program. As he steps down, one of his significant achievements nears completion—the construction of Oolite’s new $30 million headquarters in Little River, featuring state-of-the-art facilities and ample space for artists. While his departure brings mixed emotions, Scholl leaves behind a lasting impact and continues to be a mentor to many, inspiring the next generation of artists and art supporters.
