Miami, FL – December 7, 2024 – Locust Projects‘ wrapped up Miami Art Week with a Meet the Artist Party celebrating the premiere of projects by internationally-recognized artists Alexandre Arrechea and Alba Triana. Guests had the opportunity to meet the artists within a captivating immersive installation by Cuban-born artist Arrechea, “Herramienta desnuda (Bare Tool),” inspired by the gesture of a stone skipping actress water as a metaphor for our actions, and the premiere of Miami-based, Columbian artist Alba Triana’s memorizing kinetic sound installation, “Dialogue with the Primordial Sea” in the Project Room. True to the organization’s 26-year artist-centered experimental nature, the shows push the boundaries of art and ideas in their incubator warehouse space in Little River.
Among the 350 plus guests were local and visiting artists, collectors, patrons, gallerists, curators, including MacArthur “genius” award winning artist Maria Magdalena Campos Pons, Sergio and Luisa Cernuda of LNS Gallery, Tami Katz Freiman, Armando Marino, Christian Padilla, Eduardo Ojeda, past exhibiting artists Leo Castañeda and Kerry Phillips, plus Locust Projects’ Executive Director Lorie Mertes and Deputy Director Munisha Underhill, and Board Members John Devine (chair), Elizabeth Bailey, Diane Grob, Brian Heller, Steven Lanster, Stewart Merkin, artist co-founder Westen Charles, and new artist board member and last year’s Miami Art Week exhibiting artist, Cornelius Tulloch. Guests enjoyed creative cocktails crafted by Gramps bartenders featuring Helix Vodka and grooved to electronic Latin funk rhythms by Miami’s beloved avant-dance duo Tony Laurencio and Cuci Amador of Afrobeta.
“Alexandre Arrechea: Herramienta Desunda (Bare Tool)” is presented with support from Lead Sponsor María Bechily and Scott Hodes. Both exhibitions are Knight Digital Commissions.
