Miami, FL – November 9, 2023 – YoungArts celebrated the exhibition opening of Desde el Charco, featuring works by Isabella Mellado (2014 YoungArts Winner in Visual Arts), with a reception at the YoungArts Gallery. Curated by Luisa Múnera, Senior Manager, Artistic Programs and Curator at YoungArts, the solo exhibition – on view through Miami Art Week – invites viewers into a journey of discovery and self-actualization. Through paintings and photographs framed with symbolism found in folklore, mythology, tarot, astrology and even quotidian life in Puerto Rico, Mellado explores the sense of duality that is inherent to being a queer Puerto Rican of the diaspora.
YoungArts leadership, artists, art enthusiasts, members of the arts community and YoungArts supporters gathered in the YoungArts Gallery for the exhibition opening reception, exploring the works on view and taking the opportunity to meet the artist. Noteworthy attendees included YoungArts President Clive Chang, Vice President of Artistic Programs Lauren Slone, board member Rosie Gordon-Wallace, curators Ombretta Agro, Marie Vickles and Adeze Wilford, artists Robert Chambers, Mia Chaplin, Ellon Gibbs and Adelisa Selimbasic as well as YoungArts past winners Nina Ahmadi, Leonardo Bacan and Christell Victoria Roach amongst many others.
