Miami, FL – May 24, 2022 – On Tuesday, May 24, the Phillip and Patricia Frost Museum of Science (Frost Science) welcomed over 200 cultural philanthropists, civic leaders and science supporters to celebrate the museum’s fifth anniversary. The evening began with an intimate cocktail reception on the outdoor Frost Planetarium terrace. Following the reception, guests made their way inside the Frost Planetarium for the evening’s program. Frost Science President & CEO Frank Steslow welcomed the crowd, followed by a proclamation by Miami-Dade County presented by Chief Public Safety Officer Chief Alfredo “Freddy” Ramirez III, and remarks by Congressman Carlos A. Giménez. The museum, a Smithsonian Institution Affiliate, was joined by Frost Science Board Trustee Dr. Richard Kurin, a Smithsonian Distinguished Scholar and Ambassador-at-Large, Dr. Charles R. Alcock, Senior Scientist and former Director of the Center for Astrophysics | Harvard & Smithsonian, and Dr. Ellen Stofan, Under Secretary for Science and Research at the Smithsonian, for an engaging conservation about their research related to our place in the universe, and the role of emerging technologies in the exploration of the universe, inspiring our local community to learn and discover.
After the presentation, a select number of patrons, cultural ambassadors and philanthropic leaders joined the museum’s Board of Trustees for a one-of-a-kind dining experience underneath the iconic and picturesque Gulf Stream aquarium exhibit Oculus. Notable guests included Dr. Phillip and Patricia Frost, Former US Senator George LeMieux, Former National Institutes of Health Director Dr. Elias A. Zerhouni, Pro Football Hall of Famer Warren Sapp, President Julio Frenk of the University of Miami, Chief Executive Officer Bill Ulbricht of Baptist Health, Miami Dade College Provost Malou C. Harrison, Jon and Nancy Batchelor, Frost Science Board Chairman Cesar L. Alvarez, and Trustee Oana Reedy.
