Miami, FL – April 7, 2022 – YoungArts celebrated the exhibition opening of “Home: Reimagining Interiority” with a public reception and curator talk, followed by a private dinner. Curated by Dr. Joan Morgan and Dr. Deborah Willis, the exhibition features works by 20 past YoungArts exploring the significant ways Black visual narratives respond to the dynamic cultural, political, social, economic and intimate changes that have forced us to (re)interrogate previous conceptions of Blackness and home.
Art enthusiasts, members of the arts community and YoungArts supporters gathered in the YoungArts Gallery for the exhibition opening reception, exploring the works on view and taking the opportunity to meet and have an exchange with the curators and participating artists who were present: Priscilla Aleman, Daveed Baptiste, Catherine Camargo, Eli Dreyfuss, Carlos Hernandez, Zayira Ray, Coralina Rodrigues Meyer, Ackeem Salmon, Saint Samuel, Cornelius Tulloch, Triniti Wade and Nadia Wolff. Led by past YoungArts award winner, writer and community archivist Nadege Green, a curator talk at Ted’s provided insights into the curatorial process and allowed the audience to learn more about the thought processes and themes present in the exhibition. Invited guests then moved to the YoungArts Jewel Box for a seated dinner honoring curators Dr. Joan Morgan and Dr. Deborah Willis for their ongoing advocacy. YoungArts Creative Producer Lisa Leone and Dr. Joan Morgan welcomed guests to a dinner permeated by a true sense of community and support for artists and the arts. Dinner guests included Falette Branch, Leigh-Ann Buchanan, Krystina Francois, Curb Gardner, Christina Johnson, Spring McManus, Rochelle and Zac Rinkins, Anita Sharma, Mikhaile Solomon, Rose and Wes Thompson, YoungArts trustee Rosie Gordon Wallace.
