Miami, FL – June 15, 2021 – In preparation for a busy hurricane season, Caribbean Consular Corps, Miami (CCC) in tandem with on the ground disaster relief partners Global Empowerment Mission, transportation partner UC Group, and State of Florida Officials joined forces to aid disaster relief across the US and outlying Caribbean Islands. A press conference and ribbon cutting ceremony were held on Tuesday, June 15th, 2021, featuring remarks by partnership presidents and Caribbean Consul Generals. Among the dignitaries present to deliver this message will be Honorable R. Oliver Mair of Jamaica, Honorable Linda Mackey of the Bahamas, His Excellency Gilbert Boustany of Antigua & Barbuda, Honorable Tassa Jean of St. Lucia, Honorable Dianne Perrotte of Grenada, Honorable Neval Greenidge of Barbados, Honorable Stephane Gilles of Haiti, Honorable Andria Narinesingh of Trinidad and Tobago and US representatives Ignas Jurkonis, President of UC Group, and Global Empowerment Mission.

“Global Empowerment Mission alongside it’s national and international partners and celebrity support has distributed over 84 million dollars in the last three years in aid relief to 30 countries and all 50 states; this being one of the driving factors that encouraged the CCC to partner with GEM,” says CCC member H.E. Gilbert Boustany.

“It is our collective desire to work closely with corporate, government, and individuals to mitigate the impact of any major devastation or crisis. We are confident that these new partnerships will strengthen our response to any crisis we encounter,” says Global Empowerment Mission President, Michael Capponi.

“It is my honor to work with such an amazing nonprofit organization and partners that have assisted in missions all over the world. We are proud to be their transportation partner in restoring hope across America and beyond as disaster responders. “ – Ignas Jurkonis, CEO, UC Group. Mr. Jurkonis is a U.S. based entrepreneur and consultant. His primary focus is on company value turnarounds, combining traditional industries and modern management philosophies. Ignas is known for his support of young entrepreneurs, multiple social projects, and non-profit activity. Currently, under his formed UC Group, Ignas is leading and developing a group of companies through a series of M&A acting as a priority freight forwarder and visionary supply chain solution for Fortune 500 companies.

In the last year alone, GEM Bstrong has brought millions of dollars of aid to disasters across the US including over $800,000 of aid to 10 Texas cities within three weeks’ time during the 2021 winter storm. GEM also provided aid within 24 hours to those affected by the California wildfires and Alabama tornadoes.

Given that Miami serves as a gateway between the Caribbean and the US, the partnership — UC Group, GEM, #BStrong, and The Caribbean Consular Corps, Miami (CCC) — places great importance upon Miami’s location and leadership during this time. GEM’s transportation partner, UC Group, with over 500 full-size semi-trucks ensures US deliveries within 24 to 72 hours of loading and has UC Group-GEM hubs throughout our nation. Some of UC Group clients include notable brands like Walgreens, Boots Alliance, 3M, GlaxoSmithKline across the U.S. market. The goal as partners is to provide an immediate response to a crisis or disaster in order to save lives and livelihoods, promote educational opportunities, and employ (through agricultural education) food security for our region. This executed plan of action will distinctly and in an organized fashion provide immediate disaster relief strategies as well as implement disbursement of need-based supplies within 24 hours to the Caribbean Community as needed.
