Q&A: #WRECares Partners with Designer Pangea Kali Virga to Donate Face Masks
Miami, FL – April 13, 2020 – #WRECares has partnered with designer Pangea Kali Virga to fight COIVD-19 by creating and donating handmade face masks to hospitals and those working on the front lines.
Pangea Kali Virga is an enthusiastic creator whose work spans many sides of the fashion and art industry. She is a fashion designer, stylist, curator, and producer with high standards and a conceptual spirit. Her aim is to build collaborative networks and moving experiences through her work and all of her projects.
In 2014 Pangea started her line of women’s wear. In 2016 the line clarified and streamlined it’s vision and evolved into a line of couture, focused on one of a kind hand-worked textiles and garments. Pangea Kali Virga produces two collections annually. In 2018 Pangea designed both men and women’s collections for Yaly Couture. Pangea has been experimenting with sustainable techniques since 2019 as she transitions into becoming a fully environmentally friendly couture designer.
With a natural eye for styling, Pangea started her career as a stylist in 2014 and has since produced and styled dozens of shoots with many of them being published in international magazines. Her editorials have been featured in magazines such as Huf, Arsenic, Atlas, and Factice. Now in Miami, Pangea continues to push her work, collaborating in multiple mediums with artists and musicians alike. Pangea is the Executive Producer and Creative Director for the Miami On Sight fashion show.

WRE: How did you get connected to #WRECares?
Pangea Kali Virga: I was connected to #WRECares via Gabriella Smith of the Upcycle Project. Some designers that I have collaborated with in the past through my community fashion project, Miami On Sight, are also involved and it is joy to join efforts for this cause!
WRE: How is your company helping to fight COVID-19?
PKV: Pangea Kali Virga will be making masks for donation for public servants and individuals with pre-existing conditions. We will also be selling masks to the public to help cover our operating costs. Pangea Kali Virga as Executive Producer of Miami On Sight will be using this platform to help foster creativity and community action by curating artists and activists to showcase tutorials, activities, virtual gatherings, etc. We hope our efforts help lift spirits, share information, and inspire creativity and collaboration online during quarantine. You can learn more and get involved at www.miamionsight.com or @miamionsight on Instagram.
WRE: Why did you want to get involved?
PKV: Taking action is a cornerstone of my identity and brand. The topics of sustainability, environmentalism, animal rights, and standing up for equality and representation among all humans is intertwined with all of my work. It is a firm belief of mine that if there is an opportunity to help you should always seize it. I have the ability and the equipment to sew and therefore have no excuse not to do something proactive. This affects EVERYONE and the only way we can get ourselves out of this as a species is to consider one another and take care of each other at all times, pandemic or not. I am honored to be involved with #WRECares and this community of thoughtful creators and connectors.
WRE: How were you able to involve your industry in the making of masks?
PKV: Seamstresses and design houses have a storied past of national efforts whether it be making military outfits or ship sails. It is a beautiful thing to be part of this history. The studio has the capabilities for producing masks and we were able to produce a tutorial for mask making as well to help inspire others to do the same. You can see the mask making tutorial in our TUTORIAL highlighted story at @pangeakalivirga on Instagram.
WRE: What resources do you need to help increase your production of masks?
PKV: The following things would assist us in more effective production, including an industrial straight stitch sewing machine, more filter fabric (such as ZEP advanced poly fiber towels), and cotton or cotton/poly jersey. Your support is also always appreciated and we are so happy to be doing what we can!
