Bobbi Dick

Miami, FL – May 15, 2019 – World Red Eye got one-on-one with the first time author Bobbi Dick, to learn more about her newest children’s book “1+ 9 The Story of Blanchette”. Bobbi Dick started her career at the age of 16 in New York City. A classically trained dancer and actress, she achieved success and notoriety as a Broadway performer and celebrated entertainer. Bobbi has been married for 62 years to her husband, Mel. She raised two daughters and traveled the globe in support of Mel’s career, helping him become one of the world’s most revered wine and spirits industry executives.

At 82 years young, Bobbi Dick just launched her next “chapter” as an author, with Mel firmly and proudly by her side. Bobbi’s “can do” approach to life is positively inspiring. The authors newest children’s book “1 + 9” is told by a white, toy poodle named Blanchette via her adoring, human Mom named Bobbi. 60 years in the making, it’s the heartwarming tail-wagging, tale of how one dog and her nine cat “siblings” created and completed a loving family unit.

On Wednesday afternoon, we headed to The Café at Books & Books in Coral Gables as guests enjoyed a meet and greet reception with the author. Read the full Q&A below on Bobbi Dick or click here to purchase the book.

I want children and adults to celebrate and be thankful for the unconditional love that dogs and cats bestow upon humans. My hope is that people will adopt and rescue these precious creatures. Bringing animals into your family is a gift that will last a lifetime.

WRE: So tell us all about your first book “1+ 9 The Story of Blanchette”?

BD: The book was a labor of love, 60 years in the making. We got our beloved poodle Blanchette in 1959. I started writing the book in 1978, after she passed. I let it sit until the time was right to share the story of how Blanchette and her nine cat siblings brought joy to me and my family. Publishing this book now is my way of paying tribute to Blanchette and to all dogs and cats who enhance life.

WRE: What do you want children and adults to take away from the book?

BD: I want children and adults to celebrate and be thankful for the unconditional love that dogs and cats bestow upon humans. My hope is that people will adopt and rescue these precious creatures. Bringing animals into your family is a gift that will last a lifetime.

WRE: You’re donating proceeds from the sale of the book to the Humane Society of Greater Miami. Why?

BD: I want to help dogs and cats find their forever homes. For the sake of the precious animal and because they make life better and happier for the lucky humans who add them to their families.

WRE: How did your career as a performer help with the process of writing the book?

BD: Persistence, perseverance, fearlessness and most of all – the desire to bring happiness to others by entertaining and engaging them.

WRE:What’s your advice for those embarking upon a new career?

BD: Never give up. Timing is everything. Hold on to your dreams. Never lose your passion. Trust your intuition. Go for it!

WRE: How does it feel to be a first time author? What’s next on your “to do” list?

BD: Simply amazing. I feel like a puppy – happy, energized, full of hope, love and joy! As far as whats next… more books. Starting with the sequel to 1+9. It will star the two cats in my life. They’re 12 years old. One is Champagne. The other is Caviar. Because as I always say: Who doesn’t love Champagne and caviar?!
