YoungArts Celebrates New Artist Residency at Bay Parc Apartments

Miami, FL – August 29, 2018 – The National YoungArts Foundation (YoungArts) in partnership with Aimco celebrated the opening of the first of six art installations as part of an artist residency program with a reception and art talk at Bay Parc Apartments. YoungArts members, Bay Parc residents and guests received a warm welcome from Bay Parc Community Manager Patrick McGarry, followed by an introduction by award-winning journalist Nadege Green (2005 YoungArts Winner in Writing). The intimate conversation between YoungArts President and CEO Carolina García Jayaram and artist Nadia Wolff (2016 YoungArts Winner in Design Arts and Visual Arts & U.S. Presidential Scholar in the Arts) focused on the artist’s experiences and process, and invited the audience on a journey across the Caribbean and the Diaspora. Wolff’s installation “A Place to be Held” presented an exploration and re-imagination of the black Caribbean domestic space through a collage of works including drawings, prints and sculptures. Notable attendees of the evening included the artist’s family, Sandy Dorsainvil, Kasia Jablonski, Christopher Lentz, Kristopher Martin, Gabriella Smith, Mikhaile Solomon, Octavia Yearwood, and curators Naiomy Guerrero, Jen Inacio and Tami Katz-Freiman.
