Dania Beach, FL – March 16, 2018 – On Friday, the staff behind developing the much anticipated new sailing experience, Virgin Voyages, with the help of Supermarket Creative and Debris Free Oceans hit the beach for the cleanup and removal of plastics; all to make the ocean better for generations to come. Virgin Voyages, slated to launch in 2020, looks to re-define what it means to take a vacation on the sea, and are passionate about exploring new technologies and policies to reduce ocean waste. It is estimated that there are 5.2 trillion pieces of plastic in our Oceans and this number keeps growing. With this statistic at hand, Virgin Voyages is committed to making an epic sea change for all. Together with Debris Free Oceans, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, who inspires local communities to responsibly manage the lifecycle of waste as part of a global initiative to eradicate marine debris, the group of 40 Virgin Voyages employees from the Plantation-based startup, gathered at Dania Beach to clean up and collect ocean plastics. Over 100 lbs of plastics were collected in just under two-hours with a concentration on a localized area around the jetty. The plastics collected from this and future beach cleanups will be recycled and fabricated into a custom art installation for Virgin Voyages’ home office that is a visual reminder, artistic symbol and an ongoing commitment to bringing an epic sea change to the cruise industry.
