Miami, FL – November 18, 2017 – Locust Projects celebrated the opening of its Miami Art Week feature exhibitions: Nancy Davidson: p e r Sway and Pepe Mar: Man of the Night. Davidson’s surreal, “gendered” landscape is inhabited by contorted, inflatable forms that appear frozen mid-procession. With references to symbols of power and control, theater and performance, history and biophysics, the artist invites us to walk among these characters bathed in twilight to evoke our current bizarre and horrifying political climate. Pepe Mar expanded his collage-based practice with a room-filling installation that acts as a self-portrait and a queering of our project gallery while also mining the entirety of his art practice. Over 300 attendees came to view these two immersive installations. For the opening, iconic vogue dancer Slim Ninja sashayed among Davidson’s figures with moves inspired by the inflatable sculptures.
