PAMM Celebrates Exhibition Opening & Third Thursdays: Poplife Social Ft. Jojo Abot
Miami Beach, FL – September 21, 2017 – Pérez Art Museum Miami (PAMM) welcomed visitors to the opening of the second chapter of On the Horizon: Contemporary Cuban Art from the Jorge M. Pérez Collection, an exhibition showcasing a selection of works by contemporary Cuban artists donated to the museum by philanthropist and renown collector Jorge M. Pérez. Picking up the thematic thread from Chapter 1: Internal Landscapes, which was on view June 9–September 10, 2017, Chapter 2: Abstracting History explored spiritual and political histories, and examined past and contemporary realities within the context of Cuba and its diaspora. The evening of festivities kicked off with a private walkthrough for sponsors, collectors and special guests, led by PAMM Chief Curator Tobias Ostrander and Jorge M. Pérez. This VIP tour was followed by a public art talk between featured artists Glenda León and Flavio Garciandía, where they provided additional commentary about their works on view and its relation to history and abstraction. Outside on the terrace, PAMM celebrated another installment of its monthly party, PAMM Third Thursdays: Poplife Social. This month, genre and media bending artist Jojo Abot performance a lively set as part of The Rhythm Foundation’s Season Launch Party.
