Miami Beach, FL – September 23, 2017 – Literary icon Salman Rushdie joined Faena Rose members for an exclusive conversation and intimate dinner in celebration of his new book, The Golden House, moderated by poet, writer, and educator Tom Healy. Bracketed by the election of Barack Obama in 2008 and Donald Trump in 2016, The Golden House is a mesmerizing epic set against the backdrop of modern American politics & culture with dark glamour and intrigue reminiscent of The Great Gatsby and The Bonfire of the Vanities. An international symbol of moral courage, democracy, and freedom of expression, Salman Rushdie first became a household name for his novel Midnight’s Children, for which he won the prestigious Booker Prize the year it was released and the Best of the Booker for both the award’s 25th and 40th anniversaries. He is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Letters, a Distinguished Writer in Residence at NYU, a former president of PEN American Center, and was knighted in 2007 for his services to literature.

In addition to his accomplishments as a poet and writer, Tom Healy has been a leader in the arts, international affairs, and philanthropy throughout his career. As a public servant, Healy served as the Chairman of the Fulbright Scholarship Board under President Obama and on the White House Advisory Council on HIV/AIDS under President Clinton. He received the 2005 New York City Mayor’s Award for Art and Culture from Michael Bloomberg in recognition of his work in rebuilding New York’s downtown arts community after 9/11 in his role as the President of the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council. Healy has taught at NYU and the New School, is a life member of the Council on Foreign Relations, and a trustee of PEN America, where he worked alongside Rushdie. Faena Rose is an art and culture-based private members club, which brings together a dynamic community of like-minded individuals through a robust, year-round calendar of the most engaging and transformative cultural experiences.
