Miami, FL – March 19, 2017 – Arguably no one is more responsible for propagating and embodying the idea of the deejay as “artist” than Paul Miller as DJ Spooky. Rebirth of a Nation is DJ Spooky’s creation that can produce not only new thoughts, but new ways of thinking. This film project is based on a remix of D.W. Griffith’s infamous and racist 1915 film The Birth of a Nation. The original film was based on a novel and theater play by Thomas Dixon entitled The Clansmen – essentially what DJ Spooky does is apply DJ techniques to cinema in a way that parallels, deconstructs and remixes the original film, thus challenging our legacy of revisionist history. Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County organized a 30-minute conversation with DJ Spooky, where guests got a closer look into his world.
