Patricia & Phillip Frost Museum of Science “Curious Vault Collaborations 003: Neural Networks”
Miami, FL – June 18, 2016 – The Patricia and Phillip Frost Museum of Science hosted the debut of “Curious Vault Collaborations 003: Neural Networks” at the Frost Art Museum FIU. The Curious Vault Collaborations project series partners a local artist and scientist together to create a tabletop exhibit display using at least one item from the Frost Science collection. The latest installment, Neural Networks, explores the pathways of the human brain via Cognitive Neuroimaging and was created by artist and Adjunct Professor of Architecture at Florida International University, Felice Grodin, and Associate Professor of Physics at Florida International University, Dr. Angela Laird, in partnership with BYO-Lab. Frost Art Museum Director Jordana Pomeroy kicked off the evening with welcome remarks followed by Frost Science President & CEO Gillian Thomas. Guests had chance to view Neural Networks while enjoying light bites and beer courtesy of Concrete Beach Brewery during the opening reception. The event coincided with the opening of Resonance/Dissonance at Frost Art Museum, a video art exhibition featuring female artists from the de la Cruz collection as part of their “Summer of Women.”
The Frost Science portion of the event included a moderated discussion on the merging of art and science, along with an inside look at the project making of Neural Networks, featuring: Bookleggers founder and writer, Nathaniel Sandler; Art and Collection Manager at Frost Science, Kevin Arrow; along with Neural Networks creators, artist and Adjunct Professor of Architecture at Florida International University, Felice Grodin; Associate Professor of Physics at Florida International University, Dr. Angela Laird; and BYO-Lab co-founder, Andrea Perelli. Neural Networks will be on display at Frost Art Museum through August 12.
