Sammy Figueroa Presents Sally’s Tomato: A Tribute to the Music of Cal Tjader
Miami, FL – April 14, 2016 – It was a night of drinks and dancing to the beautiful, tropical sounds of Grammy nominated percussionist Sammy Figueroa and his tribute to the original “cool” and swinging Latin Jazz of vibraphonist Cal Tjader at The Light Box at Goldman Warehouse. ‘Sally’s Tomato’ is named after a song Cal Tjader composed for the film ‘Breakfast at Tiffany’s.’ Sammy was joined by vibes player Brian Potts, bassist Agustin Conti, pianist Arturito Mora, bonguero Charlie K. Santiago and musical director and salsa legend Chino Nuñez on the timbales. The celestial sound of the vines and the swinging rhythms of Sammy, Chino and Charlie brought attendees to their feet as the band plays tunes such as Soul Sauce, Cuban Fantasy, Mambo Terrifico, Nights in Tunisia and Afro-Blue. Proceeds from this show benefitted Arts for Learning (A4L), a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing teaching and learning through the arts. A4L puts professional artists of all disciplines in after school preschool, park and classroom settings to amplify learning using their talent. Celebrating its 15th anniversary, the organization has benefited more than 117,000 children across South Florida with arts education.
