Opening Night with Top Regional Artists at YoungArts

Miami, FL – March 10, 2016 – A record number of YoungArts Winners in visual arts, photography and design launched the first night of public events with a vernissage at YoungArts Miami, the city’s own regional program modeled after the organization’s signature National YoungArts Week. Following the exhibition opening in the YoungArts Gallery and Jewel Box spaces, more than 400 guests gathered under the stars for jazz performances, writers’ readings and cinematic arts screenings. YoungArts Winners ages 15-18 performed in full expression, with several writers engaging in performative poetry while the jazz band played on. With parents, educators, donors and the surrounding community standing in support, the artists – selected from 12,000 applications nationwide – felt the collective energies and impact of the audience. Starr Catering Group provided libations and bites, and guests in attendance included YoungArts Master Teachers Joan Morgan, Naomi Fisher, Loni Johnson, Fabel and Robert Chambers; YoungArts members Aaron Glickman, John Lin and Deborah Slott; and YoungArts Chairman of the Board, Rich Kohan.
