Fashion Project, Bal Harbour Shops’ Cultural Space Presents: Wearing Time Returns, Recalls, Renewals
Bal Harbour, FL – January 28, 2016 – Fashion Project, Bal Harbour Shops’ cultural initiative exploring fashion and fashion culture, celebrated the inauguration of Wearing Time: Returns, Recalls, Renewals with an intimate, pre-festival reception for Lowe Art Museum donors. The four-day Fashion in Film festival drew full-house audiences, who were treated to celebrated classics, rare newsreels, animations, documentaries, fashion films, and artist films, all of which explored cinematic clothing as a vehicle of reconnecting the past with the present and future. Featuring films by Cindy Sherman, Michelle Handelman, Jessica Mitrani, Lernert & Sander, Marcel L’Herbier, Alfred Hitchcock, Farah Kahn, Émile Cohl, Nicolas Roeg, Jun Ichikawa, Max Ophüls, Chao-ti Ho, Joseph Cornell, Albert Maysles, and more, the festival was co-curated by Marketa Uhlirova of Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts London, who is co-founder of Fashion in Film, and Tom Gunning of the University of Chicago’s Department of Film and Media Studies, who presented their overview of the festival’s theme. It culminated Fashion Project’s 50 + 50: A Century of Fashion, celebrating the past 100 years in fashion and the 50th Anniversary of Bal Harbour Shops. The inauguration was presented in partnership with Tui Pranich/Tui Lifestyle, Lowe Art Museum, Miami International Film Festival, and the Wolfson Moving Image Archives.
