Fashion Project & ADDICT Bal Harbour Hosted Fresh Kicks with Speaker Elizabeth Semmelhack
Miami Beach, FL – November 9, 2015 – As part of Bal Harbour Shops’ cultural series, Fashion Project welcomed Elizabeth Semmelhack, senior curator of the Bata Shoe Museum, for a talk presented in partnership with Books & Books, and ADDICT, Bal Harbour Shops. Her filled-to-capacity talk explored the fascinating history of the sneaker from the nineteenth century to the present. How did sneakers transform from specialized sports footwear to staples of street fashion and accessories central to expressions of masculinity? How is it that with a single glance, a pair of sneakers can reveal nuanced social information? Semmelhack has curated numerous pioneering exhibitions, including The Rise of Sneaker Culture, recently on view at the Brooklyn Museum of Art.
