Miami, FL – November 12 – 13, 2015 – The Patricia & Phillip Frost Museum of Science hosted a weekend filled of events for CappSci Inventors.
CappSci Inventors’ MDCPS Presentation at The Idea Center at MDC
November 12, 2015 – The Idea Center at MDC, Miami Dade County Public School (MDCPS) students from Miami Sunset Senior High, William H. Turner Technical Arts High School and Miami Beach Senior High had the opportunity to act as judges for CappSci Inventors™, a technology prize competition that awards two innovators $100,000 each in seed funding and the opportunity to test and build their invention at the new Frost Science, opening summer 2016. MDCPS Superintendent Alberto Carvalho kicked off the event discussing the importance of STEM education. Ted Caplow, CEO of CappSci, and Dr. Eldredge Bermingham, Chief Science Officer at Frost Science, also shared remarks. Three finalists presented their inventions in coral reef restoration and an additional three for detection of carcinogens. All six finalists were evaluated by MDCPS high school honor students enrolled in environmental and engineering programs at their respective schools. After the presentations and Q&A sessions, students got a sneak peek, hard-hat tour of the Innovation Labs at Frost Science.

CappSci Inventors at Nerd Nite Miami
November 12, 2015 – The finalists of the CappSci Inventors™ program, a technology prize program, had the chance to showcase and present their inventions to the creative and startup community at Gramps Bar in Wynwood. At the monthly “Nerd Nite Miami” event, guests interacted with the six finalists, learned about the inventions and casted their votes to help decide the two winners, which will each receive $100,000 in seed funding and the opportunity to test and build out their invention at the new Frost Science, opening summer 2016.

Unveiling of CappSci Inventors Winners
November 13, 2015 – CappSci and Frost Science held a cocktail event to unveil and celebrate the winners of the inaugural 2016 CappSci Inventors™ Coral Prize and Carcinogen Prize. The event took place at the Mayfair Hotel and Spa in Coconut Grove, and featured a technology showcase by the six finalists, a live announcement of the two winners, and remarks by CappSci CEO Ted Caplow and Frost Science President & CEO Gillian Thomas. Prof. Andrew Baker and Dr. Rivah Winter were selected as the winners of the Coral Reef Prize, and Dr. Prasoon Diwakar was selected as the winner of the Carcinogen Prize.
