Hunter & Gatti’s “I Will Make You A Star” Opening at Wynwood Art Group

Miami, FL – March 12, 2015 – Hamilton Aguiar and David Leon debuted Hunter and Gatti’s “I Will Make You a Star” at their gallery, Wynwood Art Group. Connoisseurs and collectors alike previewed thirty works by the Barcelona-New York based fashion photographers from their ongoing series of over-painted celebrity portraits. Hunter & Gatti were fascinated by using Basquiat’s iconography to “turn their own images into stars.” Their Basquiat-inspired painting interventions take their photographic works out of a fashion context, where perfection reigns, and into the world of graffiti high-art. “From this destruction of perfection, arises a new world defying the commercial character of the fashion industry,” Cristian Hunter explained to guests. “We may unconsciously recognize the identity of the celebrities that are hidden behind the layers of painting, while at the same time, we are left perplexed by the new images that have emerged.” – and it is this contradiction that makes Hunter & Gatti’s artwork unique. Portraits on exhibit include Jamie Dornan, Pharrel Williams, Ziyi Zhang, Bruno Mars, Diane Kruger, Carolyn Murphy, Toni Garrn and David Gandy, among others. Hunter & Gatti’s work has been exhibited during Art Week Miami for the past two years. They contribute regularly to international editions of Vogue, Harpers Bazaar, Marie Claire and GQ. They are also known for their artistic collaborations with Los Angeles-based Flaunt Magazine. The exhibition was curated by Aguar and Leon respectively. The opening evening was produced for Hunter & Gatti by MKarte.
