Miami Beach, FL – March, 25, 2015 – After three years of construction and a complete overhaul of the building, Starwood Capital Group’s Barry Sternlicht and developer Richard LeFrak opened the highly anticipated 1 Hotel South Beach, the first property for the new mission-driven 1 Hotels brand. Set to be an industry game-changer, the hotel plans to truly upend the world of hospitality through a socially and environmentally conscious platform in celebration of the beauty and preservation of nature. Festivities around the opening included a sage burning to cleanse the iconic property for many more years of success; the unveiling of the hotel’s signature 1 coral stone sculpture and a special presentation from Wynwood-based partner Plant the Future of butterflies timed to breathe life the same day the hotel open its doors. The opening was one day before the city’s 100th birthday, 1 Hotel South Beach placed two temporary zeros made out of plants and natural products next to the coral stone sculpture in celebration of the city’s history and taking it into its future.
