Miami, FL – February 19, 2015 – Innovation & Engineering Weekend at the Patricia and Phillip Frost Museum of Science kicked off with the announcement of CappSci Inventors, a 5-year, $1 million competitive prize program to develop innovative technology in the health and environmental sectors. Two separate prizes will be offered in 2015: one for the best invention to restore coral reefs and one for the best invention to help people reduce their exposure to carcinogens.Trish Bell, the Museum’s Co-Chair of the Board of Trustees, welcomed those in attendance and introduced Ted Caplow, CEO of CappSci. The announcement was followed by a panel discussion on the importance of competitions to advance science, featuring local leaders in science, medicine, and business. The panelists included Rebecca Fishman Lipsey, CEO of Radical Partners; marine biologist Dr. Andrew Baker from University of Miami; medical entrepreneur Dr. Maurice Ferré; and oncologist Dr. Nicholas C. Lambrou. The press conference was followed by the Innovation Luncheon, presented by Gehl Studio, with key Museum stakeholders. Those in attendance discussed the new Museum’s role in encouraging innovation in science and technology for the Miami of the future.
