Miami Beach, FL – December 5, 2014 – Swiss Haute Horology brand, Audemars Piguet celebrated their presentation of Theo Jansen’s Strandbeests in partnership with the Peabody Essex Museum at Art Basel in Miami Beach with a special evening reception at their oceanfront exhibition space on Friday evening. Held in honor of artists Theo Jansen and Lena Herzog, whose beautiful photographic works document the evolution of the Strandbeests, the late night party was attended by over 1,000 guests including renowned tennis player and long term friend of Audemars Piguet Serena Williams, actors Justin Theroux and Adrian Grenier, and actress and model, Freida Pinto. The fete was the kick off to the first major U.S. tour of Jansen’s Strandbeests in 2015-2016. The reception allowed guests to view the exhibition of Jansen’s Strandbeests alongside sketches of his creations, a replica of his atelier and beds of fossils. Complimenting this, the beautiful black and white photographs by Lena Herzog were displayed for guests to celebrate the artist’s new book, published by TASCHEN, entitled Strandbeest: The Dream Machines of Theo Jansen.
