Miami, FL – September 6, 2014 – On Saturday afternoon, the Adrienne Arsht Center celebrated its anticipated 2014-2015 Box Office Opening Weekend by announcing more than 30 new shows on sale to the public for the first time, including Tony Bennett with special guest Antonia Bennett, Ballet Nacional de España, Broadway’s Sister Act, Stephen Sondheim’s Into The Woods, Disney’s Newsies, Flamenco Festival 2015 and more. As part of the festivities, Classical South Florida (WKCP) broadcasted live all day with a special season preview as well as live interviews with artists and executives including General Director and CEO of Florida Grand Opera, Susan Danis; Executive Director of Miami City Ballet, Michael Scolamiero; President and CEO of New World Symphony, Howard Herring; Managing Director of The Cleveland Orchestra, Holly Hudak; and President and CEO of The Arsht Center, John Richard. The leaders of the four arts organizations, along with Vice President/Arts of Knight Foundation, Dennis Scholl, and Senior Advisor of Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs, Michael Spring, also participated in the inaugural Season Opener Roundtable Discussion, which covered topics such as the maturation of Miami’s arts community, recent achievements, new opportunities and future growth. Thousands of tickets were sold to the Center’s wildly diverse mix of programming and guests who purchased tickets were invited to a surprise from the Arsht Center’s vault – close to 100 pieces of coveted memorabilia, ranging from autographed posters to CDs, from an array of artists that have performed on the Center’s world-class stages.
