PAMM Celebrates Alder Guerrier: Formulating a Plot
Miami, FL – August 7, 2014 – Pérez Art Museum Miami was booming with excitement last week as the museum’s latest exhibition drew in Miami’s artsy crowd on Thursday evening. The night kicked off with a toast to celebrate the opening of Haitian-born, Miami-based artist Adler Guerrier’s first solo museum exhibition, Alder Guerrier: Formulating a Plot, a stimulating multi-media exhibition exploring Miami’s political history of radical activism through the city’s urban and suburban landscapes. Surveying fifteen years of work across diverse media, the artist’s first, solo museum exhibition considers the central themes and concerns of Guerrier’s practice. As the sun set over museum park, guests and members of the Ambassadors of African American Art kicked continued the festivities by catching a public dialogue between artist Adler Guerrier and exhibit curator, Diana Nawi. A breadth of topics reflected in the exhibition were discussed, including Guerrier’s interest in Miami’s history, the legacy of the 1960s, and the influence of cinema and literature on his practice. Thom Collins, director of Pérez Art Museum Miami, also made note that PAMM is positioned to have the largest collection of African American Art in the region.
