Miami Beach, FL – November 11, 2013 – From across the street, the awning still reads “Love Hate,” but inside the space known as the former bar has transitioned into something else entirely. What was once Chris Nunez and Ami James’ space is now the local’s drink depot known as Public House. “It’s always hard to take over a place like Love Hate, that everyone had great memories of, and do something completely different from a design standpoint. You don’t know how people will react. So far, that response has been very positive,” says Conrad Gomez.

On Friday, October 25, Public House officially opened its doors to the residents of South of Fifth, bringing a friendly, neighborhood bar the area. “We felt we needed a good neighborhood bar for locals that could be a place for any occasion—a place to start your night, a place to end your night, a place to spend your night, a place to celebrate or a place to drown your sorrows,” says Gomez. “We felt like there needed to be a come-one-come-all place that wasn’t too much of a concept.” It’s a place geared toward anyone that wants a neighborhood bar to call their own. Think of it as Cheers meets South of Fifth with a hint of South Beach cool and zero pretentiousness.

World Red Eye celebrated the grand opening of Public House on Monday, November 11 at the space, which can be described as ’60s surf culture mixed with a local saloon. The crowd sipped on what Public House hopes to be known for: classic cocktails, like an old fashioned or Moscow mule, done the right way. And you can’t go wrong doing things the right way. “Every event we do will be for the locals, whether its Basel, NYE or any other time of the year. We want consistency. We want people to know exactly what they are getting when they walk through the door of Public House,” Gomez says.

So this weekend, take a walk through those doors and see for yourself the cozy vibe that is your new neighborhood watering hole.
