Dirty Decks at LIV

Miami Beach, FL – November 13, 2013 – They came. They saw. They skated. Last week, Phillippe Falca put together his annual Dirty Decks event, which is now in its fourth year, at LIV. Here, he shares with us what the concept behind Dirty Decks, the in-club-professional-skateboarding-art-hybrid, is all about.

Tell me more about Dirty Decks.

Dirty Decks is an annual event that has been running at LIV for four years now. I’ve done it at other venues in the past, but now its home is LIV. Tao Las Vegas was one for the books. Getting the ramp built in the Vegas sun and getting into that venue was quite the mission.

How long does it take to get the ramp in the club?

Building the ramp is a process. At times we build the ramp on premises, but this year we built it in pieces and put it together on the stage at LIV. It takes about two full days, but we’ve done it in one.

How did you come up with the idea?

The idea was simple to come up with: Skating and nightlife are my life.

Which professional skaters participated this year?

Pro skaters that have participated are Kenny Anderson, Zered Bassett, Justin Strubing, Eli Reed, Alex Davis, Fred Gall, Joel Meinholz and Forrest Kirby. The local rippers that usually attend are Abe Bethel, Jason Ranft, Kenny Roche, DJ Keen One, Paulo Cardoso, Rene Perez, Koki Lozado, Richard Quintero, Mark Gamez and Danny Fuenzalida.

Why in a club?

Having skating in a club is just awesome. It’s a visual mind rape. People love it. For us skaters it’s just fun— a bunch of friends getting together partying and shredding. Perfect combo.

What was the music like?

The music as usual at Dirty Decks was awesome this year. We had DJ Ruen and The Runners playing open format and just killing it.

Tell me about the artists behind it.

The neon is a theme I often use because the lighting at LIV is so dope. This year, the artist that designed the costumes was Jessy Nite. Check her out at www.jessynite.com. The ramp was painted by Jona Cerwinske —two of my favorite local artists.

Where else can we expect to see this and when?

We will continue doing the event at LIV as often as we can.
