March 2, 1942 – October 27, 2013 – He was the man who took a walk on the wild side. Velvet Underground member and solo artist Lou Reed died Sunday, October 27, at the age of 71. Often called a rock pioneer, Reed was known for his songwriting, vocals and guitar playing. As a writer, he spoke directly about life, often using lyrics about drug abuse, paranoia and sexual exploits in his work, making him a voice of a generation and a legend for generations to come. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member’s work has inspired greats like David Bowie, R.E.M. and U2. Reed will be missed by his legion of fans, but his music will surely live on forever.
