FIU Center for Leadership Awards
Miami, FL – October 3, 2013 – Thursday, FIU Center for Leadership recognized Alberto Ibarguen for his community commitment at The Chapman Leadership Honors. He was presented the Transcendent Leader Award at the annual event. The award, named for Alvah H. Chapman, a businessman who championed arts, education and social causes, was given to Ibarguen, who is the president and CEO of the John S and James L Knight Foundation, as well as the former publisher of The Miami Herald and El Nuevo Herald. He is widely known as a community leader. Receiving the award merely cemented this fact. Ibarguen addressed the crowd with a keynote speech at FIU’s Graham Center Ballrooms. And what the crowd learned from the established journalist, who has also served on boards for PepsiCo, American Airlines, AOL and the World Wide Web Foundation, is that Miami is a city on the rise. Under his leadership, the Knight Foundation has supported Miami’s cultural core. And through his dedication to journalism, he has managed to keep Miami informed of the happenings in its own backyard.
